The Book

The History of Hartlepool
View more presentations from Claire Armitage.

This is my book I have created for my final assignment. The book is about Hartlepools history from 1800 to 2000. The images in my book have been taken by me and I have manipulated them to make them look old or that they have been drawn, this goes with my book because in the 1800's they had to draw and write all of information them selfs. I done all of my own research for the book and I have learnt alot while making my book. I also created the page numbers by my self which is a hung monkey and the number (People from Hartlepool are known as monkey hangers).

Research the history of Hartlepool and ideas

This is a footer I have found on the Hartlepool martitime experiance website it moves from left to right showing a panoramic of the historic quay. I was thinking about using this idea but instead of the panormaic of the historic quay I will be showing a timeline starting from 50 maybe 60 years ago and travel through time till the present day.

Another idea is to do an animatic a bit like the example above, this is what I made for my other subject (photography). I was thinking of getting some models and get all the different types of clothing to represent that time, also collect different images of a street that has changed in time. Then I will put the pictures together and the model will be walking along the street traveling through time to this present day.

I will be visiting the historic quay in Hartlepool (home town) out side of college, I will be looking around to collect some information and ideas. From the different activities available in the area, I will have access to all of the historic quay because I am a member of the Hartlepool Sea Cadets and this allows me to go on HMS Trincomalee.

Final piece of work brief

Using one of the techniques introduced and perfected within the course you are to produce a series of narrative images that clearly depicts the following information:

Hartlepool, as a town, has evolved drastically over the last 100 years. It has witnessed many historical events; from WW2 German attacks to serious social and urban decline. It has enjoyed short periods of prosperity and, along the way, many examples of local achievement along with scandal. As a graphic artist, you have been asked to pitch a proposal to the local council to produce a narrative image body of work that tells the story of this town over 100 years depicting its most defining moments. The pictures must tell the story of Hartlepool and conclude with an optimistic image for a brighter future.

Tilt Shift tutorials

Starting image
Final image

Tilt shift lenses focus on a single part of the photo and shift (blur) the surrounding area to create an optical illusion of miniaturized scenery. Real tilt shift lenses are quite expensive, but a similar effect can be achieved by using Photoshop after you take the photo.
Tilt shift photographs create an optical illusion that makes scenes appear as if they are actually miniature models. The outer edges are blurred which tricks the eye into perceiving everything in the unblurred parts as miniature.
I think that my image turned out better than i thought it was going to, the tutorial was very simple to follow and understand. I would like to create a few tilt shift images and incorperate the flash technique as well to start developing my presenation.
